Karen DeWig teaches private Alexander Technique lessons in the Nob Hill area of Albuquerque. She also founded and directs the Alexander Technique Center of Albuquerque, the only AmSAT-certified teacher training program in New Mexico. She’s been teaching Alexander Technique lessons since 1997, and training teachers since 2013.
In addition to teaching lessons in her home studio, Karen has taught Alexander Technique lessons and workshops at the Las Vegas (NV) Music Festival, Millikin University, Portland State University, and the University of New Mexico. Her students include actors, dancers, musicians, ice skaters, nurses, surgeons, librarians, computer technicians, technical writers, meditators, ranchers, realtors, and anyone with a desire to improve their personal performance and a dedication to their own well-being.
Several of Karen’s students have taken the next step and chosen to train to become AmSAT-certified Alexander Technique teachers at the Alexander Technique Center of Albuquerque. The training program is also open to anyone who wants a personalized intensive course of study.
Karen holds degrees in flute performance from the University of New Mexico and the University of Illinois, and certified as an Alexander Technique teacher with Joan and Alex Murray at the Alexander Technique Center of Urbana in 1997.
I was in constant pain for the last 4 years. Since starting AT lessons with Karen, I’m so totally pain-free it’s hard to get used to.
Jay Bowers, Computer Technician
My favorite qualities of Karen are her kindness, generosity, honor, fairness, thoughtfulness and unwavering poise. She thoroughly teaches by example. She is great at boosting the student's confidence in their ability to help themselves, giving them autonomy for their own progress.
Suzanne Powell, Training Course Graduate
Learning the Technique with Karen is an approachable, organic experience laced with good energy and fun.
Shelley Gentner, dancer
AT has helped me avoid back surgery, improved my balance, and taught me how to prevent sciatica. Thanks so much, Karen, for giving me this insight of the possibility of self-healing. After 18 years of AT lessons, I am still ice dancing at age 77 and loving it!
